The Coast Guard of Mirissa along with Police officers of Kotawila carried out a raid in Weligama and arrested a suspect (55years) on 16th October 2017 with 147 packets (328g each) of illegal tobacco powder which was intended to be sold to school children. The suspect on the disguise as a trader is believed to have carried out this selling of narcotics for some duration with each packet being sold at Rs 300-400/-.

The suspect together with the illegal cache of tobacco was taken over by the Kotawila Police station for further investigation.
