SLCG seized a consignment of approx. 1056 kg of dried turmeric while attempted to be smuggled into the island by sea off Deduru Oya estuary on 18th September 2020.
During a special operation, the Coast Guard western regionseized approx. 1056 kg of dried turmeric attempting to smuggle into the island via sea by a Fiber Glass Dinghy. The consignment had been stuffed in 21 gunny sacks as they were recovered by Coast Guard personnel. The seized consignment of dried turmeric has been disinfected to comply with COVID -19 guidelines stipulated by health authorities and will be handed over to the Customs Office, Katunayake for onward action.
