WORKSHOP ON ENHANCING SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY IN MARITIME NAVIGATION SUCCESSFULLY HELD IN COLOMBO

A workshop aimed at raising awareness on improving the safety and efficiency of maritime navigation was successfully conducted in Colombo in line with World Hydrography Day.

Organized with the participation of representatives from the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), the session focused on the global need for improved safety and operational effectiveness in maritime navigation. It emphasized the role of navigational aids such as buoys, lighthouses, and related systems, to assist maritime traffic and ensure safer sea routes.

The awareness session was held on June 24, 2025, at the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Headquarters in Wellawatte, with notable participation from the Dean of the IALA World-Wide Academy Foundation, Mr. Vincent Denamaur, and Mrs. Gerardine Delanoye. Senior officers from both the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and the Sri Lanka Navy also took part in the event.

The workshop served as a platform to highlight the importance of proactive measures to improve maritime safety, especially through the strategic use of aids to navigation, thereby supporting global maritime infrastructure development.
