Based on received information, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard conducted a special search operation on 29th August 2025, at the Gandara Fisheries Harbour. During the operation, a multi-day fishing vessel carrying 93 kilograms and 760 grams of illegally caught Thresher Shark fins, along with six (06) individuals on board and a lorry prepared for transporting the consignment, were arrested.
The six fishermen, aged between 25 and 58 years, were identified as residents of Gandara, Puttalam, and Wellawaya. Both the fishing vessel and the lorry, together with the suspects, were handed over to the Gandara Fisheries Inspector’s Office for further legal action.
ශ්රී ලංකා වෙරළ ආරක්ෂක දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවට ලද තොරතුරක් මත සිදු කළ විශේෂ සෝදිසි මෙහෙයුමකදී බහු දින ධීවර යාත්රාවක් තුල සඟවා තිබූ නීතිවිරෝධී ලෙස අල්ලන ලද කස මෝරුන් කිලෝග්රෑම් 93 ග්රෑම් 760 ක ප්රමාණයක් සමඟ පුද්ගලයින් හය (06) දෙනකු එම බහුදින ධීවර යාත්රාව සහ කස මෝරුන් තොගය ප්රවාහනය සඳහා සූදානම් කර තිබූ ලොරි රථයක් ශ්රී ලංකා වෙරළ ආරක්ෂක දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව විසින් ගන්දර ධීවර වරායේදී 2025 අගෝස්තු මස 29 වන දින අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීමට සමත් විය.
ඒ අනුව, අත් අඩංගුවට ගත් එම ධීවරයන් හය දෙනා වයස අවුරුදු 25ත් 58ත් අතර වයසේ පසුවන ගන්දර, පුත්තලම සහ වැල්ලවාය ප්රදේශයේ පදිංචිකරුවන් ලෙස හඳුනා ගන්නා ලද අතර, එම ධීවරයන් හය දෙනා ධීවර යාත්රාව සහ ලොරි රථය ඉදිරි නීතිමය කටයුතු සඳහා ගන්දර ධීවර පරීක්ෂක කාර්යාලය වෙත භාර දීම සිදු කෙරිණි.
