SUSPECT ARRESTED WITH 677 KILOGRAMS OF KENDU LEAVES BY COAST GUARD

Coast Guard personnel with the assistance of Sri Lanka Navy during joint operations in Thalawila sea area in Chilaw arrested a suspect along with a stock of Kendu leaves weighing over 677 kilograms and two (02) dinghy boats used to smuggle on 30^th October 2025.

The operation was conducted based on information received by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and was executed with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy using Fast Attack Craft and Inshore Patrol Craft. Upon inspection, 677 kilograms and 500 grams of Kendu leaves, packed in 18 bundles and concealed in two (02) dinghy boats, were recovered. A suspect believed to be involved in the smuggling attempt was also taken into custody during the operation.

The arrested suspect, together with the seized stock of Kendu leaves and the two (02) dinghy boats, were handed over to Thoduwawa Police Station for further investigations.
