In a swift and coordinated joint operation, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Sri Lanka Navy and Marine Environmental Protection Authority successfully controlled a fuel spill off the Colombo harbour this morning (14th December 2025). The incident, caused by a sudden leak in a fuel transferring line of Single Point Buoy Mooring 1 (SPBM 1) north of Colombo harbour and mitigate the oil spill through the quick response using oil spill skimming equipment within short period.
Upon notification from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the Navy promptly deployed 03 Fast Attack Craft along with the Coast Guard oil spill response ship SLCGS ‘Samaraksha’, effectively engaged to control the spill. The operation was conducted with the assistance of the Marine Environmental Protection Authority and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
කොළඹ වරාය ආසන්නයේ ඉන්ධන බෝයාවක අද උදෑසන (2025 දෙසැම්බර් 14) සිදුවූ හදිසි ඉන්ධන කාන්දුවක් හේතුවෙන්, කොළඹ ප්රදේශයට ඔබ්බෙන් වු මුහුදු ප්රදේශයේ ඇතිවූ ඉන්ධන විසිරීම, ශ්රී ලංකා වෙරළ ආරක්ෂක දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව, ශ්රී ලංකා නාවික හමුදාව හා සමුද්රීය පරිසර ආරක්ෂණ අධිකාරිය සමඟ එක්ව සිදුකල මෙහෙයුමක් මඟින් සාර්ථකව පාලනය කිරීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.
ඒ අනුව, ශ්රී ලංකා වරාය අධිකාරිය වෙතින් සිදුකල දැනුම් දීමකට අනුව වෙරළාරක්ෂක දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව හා නාවික හමුදාව ඒ සඳහා ක්ෂණිකව ප්රථිචාර දක්වමින් වෙරළාරක්ෂක දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවට අයත් තෙල් විසිරුම් පාලනය සඳහා අවශ්ය නවීන තාක්ෂණික උපකරණ වලින් සමන්විත ‘සමාරක්ෂා’ නෞකාව සහ නාවික හමුදා වේගප්රහාරක යාත්රා 03ක් ඉන්ධන විසිරීම පාලනය සඳහා යෙදවූ අතර, සමුද්රීය පරිසර ආරක්ෂණ අධිකාරිය සහ ලංකා ඛණිජ තෙල් නීතිගත සංස්ථාවේද සහය ඇතිව ඉන්ධන විසිරීම සාර්ථකව පාලනය කිරීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.
