The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) successfully rescued twenty one (21) local and foreign tourists from drowning during lifesaving operations conducted across various coastal regions of the island in the month January 2026.
The SLCG operates seventeen (17) lifesaving posts along key tourist attracting beaches around the country and lifesaving rescue missions carried out in the seas off Mount Lavinia, Bentota, Balapitiya, Mirissa and Nilaweli, the Coast Guard lifesavers were able to rescue fifteen (15) foreign nationals and six (06) local tourists from drowning.
The rescued individuals comprised male and female nationals from Australia, Belarus, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Russia, Slovakia and the U.K, aged between 09 and 64 years.
Since its establishment in 2010, the Coast Guard lifesavers have successfully rescued 2,568 lives, including 1,179 foreign nationals.
ශ්රී ලංකා වෙරළ ආරක්ෂක දෙපාර්තමේන්තු ජීවිතාරක්ෂක නිලධාරීන් විසින් 2026 ජනවාරි මාසය තුල සිදුකල ජිවිතාරක්ෂක මෙහෙයුම් මඟින් වෙරළ කලාපයේ දිය නෑමට ගොස් දියේ ගිලීමට ලක්වීමෙන් අනතුරට පත් දෙස් විදෙස් සංචාරකයින් විසිඑක් දෙනෙකුගේ (21) ජිවිත බේරා ගැනිමට සමත් විය.
ඒ අනුව, වෙරළ ආරක්ෂක දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව දිවයින වටා සංචාරක ආකර්ෂණය දිනාගත් වෙරළ තීරයන් ආවරණය වන පරිදි ජීවිතාරක්ෂක මුරකුටි පවත්වාගෙන යමින් ගල්කිස්ස, බෙන්තොට, බලපිටිය, හික්කඩුව, මිරිස්ස සහ නිලාවේලි මුහුදේ සිදුකල ජිවිතාරක්ෂක මෙහෙයුම් මඟින් විදේශීය සංචාරකයින් පහළොස් (15) දෙනෙකු සහ දේශිය සංචාරකයින් හය (06) ගේ ජිවිත නිරුපද්රිතව බේරා ගැනීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.
තවද, මෙසේ බේරා ගන්නා ලද සංචාරකයින් වයස අවුරුදු 09ත් 64ත් අතර වයසේ පසුවන රුසියාව, එක්සත් රාජධානිය, ඔස්ට්රේලියාව, බෙල්ජියම, ප්රංශය, ජර්මනිය, පොලන්තය, බෙලරුස් සහ ස්ලෝවැකියාව වැනි රටවල් නියෝජනය කරන කාන්තා සහ පිරිමි පුද්ගලයන් ඇතුලත් වන බව වැඩිදුරටත් අනාවරණය කරගන්නා ලදි. එමෙන්ම 2009 වර්ෂයේ වෙරළ ආරක්ෂක දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව පිහිටුවීමෙන් අනතුරුව අද දක්වා ජිවිත 2568ක ප්රමාණයක් බේරාගැනීමට කටයුතු කර ඇති අතර, ඉන් 1179ක් විදේශිකයන් වේ.
