COAST GUARD FELICITATES FOUNDING DIRECTOR GENERAL

A ceremony to pay tribute to Rear Admiral Daya Dharmapriya (Retd), the first Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, was held at the Coast Guard Headquarters today (06^th June 2026).

The event was held to appreciate the invaluable service of Rear Admiral Daya Dharmapriya (Retd), the founding Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard. Drawing upon his extensive experience and forward thinking leadership, he laid the foundational framework for the establishment of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard. His vision and strategic guidance continue to shape the Department’s growth, development, and modernization.

Rear Admiral Daya Dharmapriya (Retd) and his spouse were warmly welcomed by the present Director General of the Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Rohan Joseph, upon their arrival. The ensuing ceremony commended his leadership, dedication, and outstanding contribution during his tenure as the founding Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard. He was also honoured with the privilege of declaring open the Leadership and Management Unit at Coast Guard Headquarters, a step in towards strengthening the educational resources of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard

Furthermore, commemorative gifts were presented to Rear Admiral Daya Dharmapriya (Retd) and his spouse on this occasion. The event was attended by the Deputy Director General of the Coast Guard, Commodore Prasad Jayasinghe, along with Head of Departments, officers, and Coast Guard personnel.
