COAST GUARD LIFESAVERS DEPLOYED FOR DROWNING PREVENTION FOR KATARAGAMA PILGRIMS

Sri Lanka Coast Guard deployed lifesavers along the ‘Menik Ganga’ to ensure the safety of devotees visiting the sacred temple of Kataragama from all parts of the island, with effect from 15 July 2026.

The Coast Guard lifesavers are deployed to prevent possible drowning incidents and safeguard the lives of pilgrims who visit the Menik Ganga as part of their religious observances during the season.

Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard has taken steps to deploy lifesavers continuously from 15 July to 29 July 2026 in the Sella Kataragama and Kataragama areas along the Manik Ganga.
