Based on intelligence received by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, a special operation was conducted at the ‘Theppam Thotupola’ area in Katuneriya in coordination with the Officers of State Intelligence Service, Wennappuwa, Sri Lanka Navy and arrested a person along with two (02) dinghy boats and a lorry with over 1580 Kg (with wet weight) of Kendu leaves on 16th July 2026.
The gross street value of Kendu leaves taken into custody in this operation is believed to be over eleven Million.
The arrested suspect, together with the seized stock of Kendu leaves, 02 dinghy boats and the lorry, were handed over to the Excise Department Office in Wennappuwa for further investigation and legal proceedings.
ශ්රී ලංකා වෙරළ ආරක්ෂක දෙපාර්තුමේන්තුව වෙත ලද විශේෂ තොරතුරකට අනුව 2026 ජුනි මස 16 වන දින උදෑසන කාලයේ වෙන්නප්පුව රාජ්ය බුද්ධි සේවයේ නිලධාරීන් හා නාවික හමුදාව එක්ව කටුනේරිය තෙප්පන් තොටුපොල ප්රදේශය ආශ්රිතව සිදුකල විශේෂ මෙහෙයුමක් මඟින් නීති විරෝධි ලෙස මෙරටට ගෙන්වන ලද උර හතලිස් එකක (41) අසුරන ලද බීඩි කොල කිලෝ ග්රෑම් 1580 (තෙත බර සහිත) කට අධික තොගයක් සමඟ එක් (01) සැක කරුවෙක්, ඩිංගි යාත්රා 02ක් සහ බීඩී කොල ප්රවාහනය සඳහා සූදානම් කර තිබු බවට සැක කෙරෙන ලොරි රථයක් වෙරළ ආරක්ෂක දෙපාර්තුමේන්තුව අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.
මෙම මෙහෙයුම මඟින් අත්අඩංගුවට ගත් බීඩී කොල තොගයෙහි දළ වටිනාකම රුපියල් මිලියන 11කට අධික වේ.
තවද, මෙලෙස අත්අඩංගුවට ගත් සැකකරු, බීඩිකොල, ඩිංගි යාත්රා 02ක මෙන්ම ලොරි රථය ඉදිරි විමර්ශණ සහ නීතිමය කටයුතු සඳහා වෙන්නප්පුව සුරාබදු දෙපාර්තමේන්තු කාර්යාලය වෙත භාර දීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.
