SRI LANKA COAST GUARD CONDUCT A TABLE TOP EXERCISE (TTX) FOCUSED ON MARITIME LAW ENFORCEMENT

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) conducted a Tabletop Exercise (TTX) at SLCG Headquarters, focused on Maritime Law Enforcement on 08th and 09th October 2026, bringing together officers from the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), and Sri Lanka Customs to strengthen inter-agency coordination and enhance operational readiness in addressing maritime incidents.

The exercise was conducted by the Training Directorate utilizing specialized software developed by the SLCG Information Technology Unit to simulate real-time maritime incidents and assess participants’ responses.

The exercise covered scenarios involving Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations, oil spill response and management, human trafficking, and drug trafficking, with emphasis on swift decision-making, effective inter-agency coordination, and appropriate operational responses.

The exercise also emphasized the legal aspects of maritime law enforcement, including compliance with domestic legislation and relevant international laws and conventions, such as MARPOL and UNCLOS.

All participants actively engaged in the exercise and gained valuable practical experience in incident management, operational decision making, and inter agency cooperation, further strengthening their capacity to address maritime security challenges and protect Sri Lanka’s maritime interests.
