Two individuals were arrested with twenty (20) lobsters suspected to have been illegally caught and whilst preparing for sale during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard near Haraspola Fisheries Harbour, Brahmanawatta.
The arrest was made due to the violation of Section 34 of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No. 2 of 1996, and the relevant regulations prohibiting lobster fishing during October. The suspects and apprehended items were taken into custody for further investigation and legal action.
This operation highlights the Sri Lanka Coast Guard’s commitment to combating illegal fishing and protecting marine resources.
