Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) is the premier maritime law enforcement force functions under the Ministry of Defence. SLCG acts as a first responder to oil spill response and management in Sri Lanka.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED A FISHING VESSEL WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED CUT SHARK FINS
Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Galle Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties apprehended a Multiday fishing vessel along with 07 fishermen in possession of illegally harvest cut shark fins on 29th August 2023.
COAST GUARD RESCUED ANOTHER MALE
On 27th August 2023, Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers stationed at Mount Lavinia Lifesaving Post successfully rescued an individual who was in distress and at risk of drowning.
COAST GUARD PERSONNEL ARRESTED 5000 FOREIGN CIGARETTES
On 26th August 2023, two persons and a motorbike were arrested along with a stock of 5000 foreign cigarettes in 02 operations conducted by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard with the support of the Chilaw Police and the Special Task Force (Mattakkuliya).
COAST GUARD PERSONNEL ARRESTED KENDU LEAVES IN WATTAKKALLIYA BEACH AREA
On 25th August 2023, officers from the Sri Lanka Coast Guard stationed at Chilaw, in collaboration with the Chilaw Police, apprehended two individuals and seized a lorry containing a shipment of 1231.8 kg of Kendu leaves.
COAST GUARD RESCUED THREE LOCALS FROM RISK OF DROWNING
Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers attached to Panadura and Gopalapuram public beach saved three locals during a successful rescue attempt on 24th August 2023.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD RESCUES FIVE FOREIGNERS
Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers, attached to the Mirissa Lifesaving Post, saved three Russians, a German, and an Iranian from drowning at Mirissa beach on 23rd August 2023. Two adults , aged 38 and 27, and a 6 year-old child who were Russian nationalists were swimming at the beach when they were suddenly swept away by strong sea currents. The Coast Guard lifesavers' alertness, skillfulness, and experience could save the three lives. The same day, a German male and a 25-year-old Iranian male were also at risk of drowning due to heavy sea currents and safely rescued by SLCG.

Two Germans were rescued by Sri Lanka Coast Guard lifesavers attached to Mirrissa Lifesaving Post whilst drowning on 22nd August 2023 in a successful rescue attempt.
