COAST GUARD RELEASED NEWLY HATCHED TURTLES INTO THE SEA
SLCG has released 480 numbers of newly hatched sea turtles into the sea from Hikkaduwa and Mirissa, beaches during the period from 05 -11 June 2023. These turtles are released to the sea where retrieved eggs are conserved near lifesaving posts close to the natural habitat of the turtles.

SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARK FINS
Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) personnel deployed at Galle Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties arrested seven persons possessing illegally harvested dried shark fins on 06th June 2023 during arrival inspections.

SRI LANKA COAST GUARD RESCUED TWO LOCALS FROM DROWNING
The Lifesavers attached to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesaving Post Benthota public beach saved two locals during a successful rescue attempt on 29th May 2023. At the Benthota public beach, two local males aged 15 years’ old who were at risk of drowning and being pulled away by currents were rescued by the Coast Guard rescuers stationed at the lifesaving post.

These turtles are released to the sea where retrieved eggs are conserved near lifesaving posts close to the natural habitat of the turtles.

The prompt and skilled action of the SLCG rescuers, who were stationed at the lifesaving post, resulted in the successful rescue of the victims despite unexpected waves and currents in the area.
INTERVENTION BY SRI LANKA COAST GUARD: THWARTING THE ILLICIT SEA SMUGGLING OF KENDU LEAVES
The Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel, stationed at Coast Guard Station Chilaw, apprehended an individual who was attempting to smuggle a shipment of 331.7 kilograms of Kendu Leaves into the country through sea routes by using Fiber Glass Dinghy.

At the Mirissa public beach, two Russian females aged 23 years’ old who were at risk of drowning and being pulled away by currents were rescued by the Coast Guard rescuers stationed at the lifesaving post.
