COAST GUARD RESCUED TWO LOCALS FROM DROWNING

The Lifesavers attached to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesaving post at Mirissa public beach saved two locals during a successful rescue attempt on 16th April 2023. At the beachfront, 26 and 25-year-old local males who were at risk of drowning and being pulled away by currents were rescued by the Coast Guard on duty rescuers stationed at the lifesaving post.

The Lifesavers attached to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesaving Post Hikkaduwa public beach saved a foreign couple during a successful rescue attempt on 15th April 2023. At the Hikkaduwa public beach, a 27 and 28-year-old Russian male and female who were at risk of drowning and being pulled away by currents were rescued by the Coast Guard rescuers stationed at the lifesaving post.

Through the cumulative cooperation of Coast Guard personnel stationed at life-saving posts Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Balapitiya, Wellawaththa, Moragalla and Mount Lavinia retrieved 2024 numbers of sea turtles’ eggs from the territory close to their natural habitats during the period from 03 to 09 April 2023. The retrieved eggs are being conserved near the life-saving posts as well as where the eggs have been found. Meanwhile, SLCG has released 4167 numbers of sea turtle hatchlings into the sea from Wellawaththa, Mount Lavinia, Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Balapitiya, and Moragalla beaches during the same period.

The retrieved eggs are being conserved near the life-saving posts as well as where the eggs have been found. Meanwhile, SLCG has released 4755 numbers of sea turtle hatchlings into the sea from Wellawaththa, Mount Lavinia, Panadura, Mirissa, Hikkaduwa and Dehiwala beaches during the same period.
