SRI LANKA COAST GUARD ARRESTED PERSONS WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED DRIED SHARK FISH, SHARK FINS, DOLPHIN FLESH AND SHARK FLESH
Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Negombo Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties arrested six persons in possession of illegally harvested dried shark fins, dried shark fish, shark flesh and Dolphin flesh on 10th March 2023 during arrival inspections after fishing.

COAST GUARD RECOVERED SEA TURTLE EGGS AND RELEASED TURTLE HATCHLINGS INTO THE SEA
Through the cumulative cooperation of Coast Guard personnel stationed at life-saving posts Mirissa, Wellawatta, Panadura, Hikkaduwa and Mount Lavinia retrieved 3961 numbers of sea turtles’ eggs from the territory close to their natural habitats during the period from 27th February to 05th March 2023.

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) was established under the Ministry of Defence by the Coast Guard Act No. 41 of 2009 and formally inaugurated on 4th March 2010 under the leadership of Rear Admiral LD Dharmapriya, the founding Director General of SLCG.

Through the cumulative cooperation of Coast Guard personal stationed to life saving posts Mirissa, Wallawatte, Panadura, Galkissa , Moragolla and Hikkaduwa retrieved 5321 numbers of sea turtles’ eggs from the territory which closes to their natural habitats
COAST GUARD RESCUED A FOREIGNER FROM RISK OF DROWNING
The Lifesavers attached to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesaving Post Balapitiya public beach saved a foreigner during a successful rescue operation on 22nd February 2023.
COAST GUARD RECOVERED SEA TURTLE EGGS AND RELEASED TURTLE HATCHLINGS INTO THE SEA
The collective effort of Coast Guard personnel attached to Life-Saving Posts Mirissa, Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa, Moragolla, Panadura, Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala, Wellewatta recovered 4286 numbers of Sea turtle eggs from places close to their natural habitat during the period from 13th to 19th February 2023. Recovered eggs being conserved at the locations near respective lifesaving posts. Meanwhile, SLCG released a total no of 167 sea turtle hatchlings into the sea from Mirissa, Hikkaduwa and wellewatta during the same period.
