COAST GUARD RESCUED A FOREIGN COUPLE FROM RISK OF DROWNING
The Lifesavers attached to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesaving Post Hikkaduwa public beach saved a foreign couple during a successful rescue operation on 05th February 2023.
COAST GUARD RECOVERED SEA TURTLE EGGS AND RELEASED TURTLE HATCHLINGS INTO THE SEA
The collective effort of Coast Guard personnel attached to Life-Saving Posts Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Moragolla, and Balapitiya recovered 2052 numbers of Sea turtle eggs from places close to their natural habitat during the period from 01st to 06th February 2023. Recovered eggs being conserved at the locations near respective lifesaving posts. Meanwhile, SLCG released 72 and 172 sea turtle hatchlings into the sea from Mirissa and Balapitiya during the same period.

JICA FUNDED THE JAPANESE COAST GUARD (JCG) OIL SPILL MANAGEMENT TRAINING COURSE FOR SRI LANKA COAST GUARD
Japanese Coast Guard, in partnership with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), inaugurated its third phase of oil spill response and management training for thirty-four Sri Lankan Coast Guard (SLCG) personnel at the Advanced Training Center (ATC), Kirinda on 02nd February 2023.

COMMANDER (C) ADRW ATHUKORALA ASSUMED COMMAND OF THE SRI LANKA COAST GUARD SHIP JAYESAGARA
Commander (C) Rangana Athukorala assumed duties as the 2nd Commanding Officer of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Ship Jayesagara on 31st January 2023, which is the second largest ship of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard. Before taking over the command as the Commanding Officer of SLCGS Jayesagara, Commander (C) Rangana Athukorala was at the Coast Guard Headquarters, discharging duties as the Senior Staff Officer (Operations).

The collective effort of Coast Guard personnel attached to Life-Saving Posts Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Wellawaththa, Mount Lavinia, Balapitiya and Panadura recovered 2287 numbers of Sea turtle eggs from places close to their natural habitat during the period from 22nd to 31st January 2023.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED TWO FISHING VESSELS WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED DRIED SHARK FINS AND SHARK FISH
Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Dikovita Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties apprehended two Multiday Fishing Vessels along with 14 fishermen in possession of illegally harvested dried Shark fins and shark fish on 30th January 2023.
