TRAINING COOPERATION WITH JICA/ JCG FURTHER EXTENDED
Japan Coast Guard (JCG) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has conducted the advisory service for improving oil spill response capabilities for SLCG through the phase I project from 2015- 2017( Basic coastal oil spill response training up to tier 1) and the phase II project from 2019 – 2021 ( Oil spill response skills at sea by boat).
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED A FISHING VESSEL WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARK PARTS
Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed in the Negambo Fishery Harbor for fishery monitoring and regulating duties apprehended a Multiday Fishing Vessel along with six fishermen in possession of illegally harvested prohibited Shark fins and dried Sharks fish on 03rd May 2022 during on arrival searching formalities.
BABY TURTLE RELEASED FROM SRI LANKA COAST GUARD HATCHERIES
Five hundred and sixty two (562) baby turtles have been hatched from 619 conserved turtle eggs in various parts of the island under the Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project (CGTCP).
COAST GUARD RESCUED A FOREIGNER DROWNING AT MIRISSA BEACH
The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Mirissa rescued a 19 years old England male during a successful rescue attempt on 30th April 2022
BABY TURTLE RELEASED FROM SRI LANKA COAST GUARD HATCHERIES
One thousand and six hundred three (1603) turtle hatchlings have been hatched out from 1903 turtle eggs conserved in various parts of the Island under the Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Projects (CGTCP). They have been safely released into the sea in recent days and this rare events have caught the eyes of many foreigners and civilians in the area. The CGTCP takes every effort to conserve turtle eggs in or around their natural nest cages to ensure safety and natural habitat, and only conserves them in protected areas when natural nest are threatened.
COAST GUARD RESCUED A MALE FROM DROWNING AT MIRISSA BEACH
The Lifesavers attached to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Mirissa beach saved a local male during successful rescue attempt on 23rd April 2022.
A joint lifesaving training course was conducted to improve interoperability among service personnel to act in collaboration for ensuring water safety and drowning prevention in the country. The training course was concluded in a charming ceremony on 12th April at Coast Guard Life Saving Training School Balapitiya (LSTS Balapitiya).
COAST GUARD RESCUED THREE FOREIGNERS AT RISK OF DROWNING
The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Hikkaduwa rescued three Russian nationals, during a successful rescue attempt on 12th April 2022. A 39 years old male, 37 years old lady and 13 years old boy were rescued whilst drowning and dragging away by currents near Hikkaduwa beach.

Six hundred and twenty seven (627) baby turtles have been hatched out of 675 turtle eggs conserved in various parts of the island under the Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project (CGTCP).

The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Mirissa rescued Rusian female (30 years old) during a successful rescue attempt on 07th April 2022. She was rescued whilst drowning and dragging away by currents in front at Mirissa Beach.
