OFFSHORE PATROL VESSEL CG 60 COMMISSIONED AS SRI LANKA COAST GUARD SHIP SURAKSHA
The Sri Lanka Coast Guard’s first Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) CG 60 was commissioned in a glittering sun-set ceremony with State Minister of Defence, Hon. Ruwan Wijewardane as the Chief Guest. The ceremony took place at the Passenger Jetty at Port of Colombo on 21st October 2017.
COAST GUARD ARREST THREE PERSONS WITH 600G OF KERALA CANNABIS
Coast Guard personnel of Beruwala and the Kalutara Police Criminal Investigation Division officers carried out a raid at Beruwala harbour and arrested three suspects with 600g of Kerala Cannabis whilst being transported in a three-wheeler on 19th October 2017. Arrested personnel’s with Kerala Cannabis were handed over to Beruwala Police for further investigations/ Legal action.
Based on information given by a fisherman, Coast Guard personnel at Coast Guard Station Kirinda carried out a search operation and found a decomposed dead body of a male, floating in Agalagate sea front around 04.30 pm on Wednesday 18th October 2017.
LIFE SAVERS RESCUE ANOTHER LIFE AT BENTOTA BEACH FRONT
A 20 years old male from Beruwala was rescued by the Coast Guard life savers around 4.40 pm on Tuesday, 17th October at Bentota sea front after a near drowning. Bentota, a popular beach front for local and foreign tourists is under the protection of the Life Savers of the Coast Guard for several years now. These Life Guards had been able to save many lives from watery grave since then and also had been praised by the local authorities for the service they have rendered.
COAST GUARD ARREST A PERSON WITH 147 PACKETS OF NARCOTICS
The Coast Guard of Mirissa along with Police officers of Kotawila carried out a raid in Weligama and arrested a suspect (55years) on 16th October 2017 with 147 packets (328g each) of illegal tobacco powder which was intended to be sold to school children. The suspect on the disguise as a trader is believed to have carried out this selling of narcotics for some duration with each packet being sold at Rs 300-400/-.
COAST GUARD ARREST FISHERMEN FOR KILLING PROTECTED WHALE SHARK
On 11th October 2017, the Coast Guard Personnel apprehended four fishermen who had fished a whale shark (Mini Muthu Mora) of approximately 170 Kg. This was discovered whilst checking the fishing boat at Valachchenai Fishery Harbour as a routine inspection.
COAST GUARD LIFE GUARDS SAVED FOUR LIVES AT MIRISSA BEACH
The life guards of Sri Lanka Coast Guard rescued lives of four foreign ladies on 06th October 17 whilst drowning at Mirissa beach front. The prompt response of life savers helped to save lives of the ladies. Two ladies who have been rescued are Koreans and other two are Danish.
Coast Guard lifeguards deployed at Special duty for Esala life saving safety program at Kirinda rescued a youth from drowning around 3.45 pm today (09th July).
