SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED A FISHING VESSEL WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED DRIED SHARK FINS
Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Beruwala Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties apprehended a Multiday Fishing Vessel along with five fishermen in possession of illegally harvested dried Shark fins on 25th February 2022.
SIX FISHERMEN ARRESTED FOR ENGAGING IN ILLEGAL FISHING PRACTICES
Sri Lanka Coast Guard patrol craft deployed off Trincomalee area to deter illegal activities arrested/apprehended six fishermen with two FGDs whilst engaging illegal fishing on 22nd February 2022. They were engaged in purse seine net fishing operation in seas off Trincomalee area close to land (approximately 02 km). According to the existing fishing operation regulations, purse seine net fishing is authorized only in the area beyond 11.2 km from the coast.
COAST GUARD RESCUED A FOREIGNER AT RISK OF DROWNING
The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Mirissa rescued a Ukrainian male, during successful rescue attempt on 22nd February 2022. A 31 years old Ukrainian male, was rescued whilst drowning and dragging away by currents near Mirissa beach. Victim was transferred to District General Hospital Matara by Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service to provide further medical care.
COAST GUARD RELEASES 343 SEA TURTLES HATCHLINGS TO SEA
Three Hundred and Forty Three (343) sea turtle hatchlings hatched from 363 turtle eggs conserved under the SLCG Rohana at Mirissa and Life Saving Post Hikkaduwa were released safely into the sea on 17th February 2022.
COAST GUARD RESCUED THREE FOREIGNERS AT RISK OF DROWNING
The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Benthota rescued a Russian lady and two Lithuanian nationals, during successful rescue attempts on 18th February 2022.
JAPANESE DELEGATION PAID A COURTESY CALL ON THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SRI LANKA COAST GUARD
The Director General-Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake welcomed the delegation from Japan Coast Guard (JCG) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at the Coast Guard Headquarters, Mirissa on 20th February 2022 and appreciated their visit all the way to Mirissa.
OFF SHORE OIL SPILL TRAINING EVALUATION EXERCISE WAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED
The SLCG has conducted offshore oil spill response exercise off Colombo harbour with the participation of the JICA and Mobile Cooperation Team of JCG members.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Codbay Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties apprehended a Multiday Fishing Vessel along with six fishermen in possession of illegally harvested dried Shark fins and fish on 16th February 2022.
AN INJURED GREEN TURTLE RESCUED IN THALARAMBA BEACH
Based on the information provided by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel, an injured Green Turtle (Chelonia Mydas) was rescued at Thalaramba beach, Mirissa with the support of the villages on 12th February 2022. The rescued turtle with a gaping wound in its head was unable to swim and found very close to the shore.
