They were engaged in purse seine net fishing operation in seas off Trincomalee area close to land (approximately 02 km). A 31 years old Ukrainian male, was rescued whilst drowning and dragging away by currents near Mirissa beach. Victim was transferred to District General Hospital Matara by Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service to provide further medical care.

Based on the information provided by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel, an injured Green Turtle (Chelonia Mydas) was rescued at Thalaramba beach, Mirissa with the support of the villages on 12th February 2022. The rescued turtle with a gaping wound in its head was unable to swim and found very close to the shore.
