JUNIOR SAILORS’ MESS OF CGS KIRINDA WAS DECLARED OPEN
The newly constructed junior sailors’ mess of CGS Kirinda was declared open on 04th August 2020 by Rear Admiral GDAS Wimalathunge on the invitation of Regional Director Southern Region and Commanding Officer SLCG Rohana Captain (G) AMSR Kumara . The Building was constructed to uplift the living standard of the junior sailors of CGS Kirinda on the directions given by Director General Coast Guard.

A craft attached to Northern Region of Sri Lanka Coast Guard apprehended two persons with a haul of drugs commonly known as Kerala Cannabis on 24th June 2020.
BEACH CLEANING IN WELLAWATHTHA AND PANADURA AREAS
SLCG conducted a beach cleaning programme in beach fronts of Wellawatta and Panadura areas on 21 June 2020 with the participation of more than 50 SLCG personnel.

The Mirissa Central College utilized as an isolation center for SLCG personnel with the outbreak of Covid -19 pandemic in the country handed over to principal on 13th June after disinfection.
SRILANKA COAST GUARD INITIATES BEACH CLEANING EFFORT IN MOUNT LAVINIA
Sri Lanka Coast Guard under took a mammoth effort to clean garbage accumulated at Mount Lavinia beach coinciding with the World Environment Day on 05 June2020. The officers and men attached to Coast Guard Rear Headquarters, SLCG Waruna, Wellawatta participated in the event on the direction of Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard, inspiring other volunteer organizations to join with.

JAPANESE DELEGATION PAID A COURTESY CALL ON THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SRI LANKA COAST GUARD
A Japanese delegation paid a courtesy call on the Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge, RWP, VSV, USP, nswc, MSc (DS) Mgt on 28th February 2020 at Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Headquarters, Wellawatte. The delegation is comprised of Officers from Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT) and the National Strike Team (NST) of Japan Coast Guard and Officials from JICA, Sri Lanka.
‘OIL SPILL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT IN OPEN SEAS’ – A JICA/JCG SPONSORED CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM ON DISASTER RESPONSE
The second phase of ‘Oil spill incident management training program in open seas’ conducted from 19th to 28th February 2020 at SLCG Advanced Training Centre, Mirissa in continuation to 2019 - 2021 three years JICA sponsored capacity building programme. Japan Coast Guard (JCG) members including representatives of National Strike Team (NST) conducted the program with the collaboration of JICA Sri Lanka office. It is a comprehensive training program in the field of oil pollution management and response at open seas including detection of hazardous gases. Program was conducted as theory, practical and simulated exercise sessions and 62 participants including 09 Officers from Sri Lanka Coast Guard attended the program.
INDIAN COAST GUARD SHIPS VEERA AND ABHEEK VISIT SRI LANKA
Indian Coast Guard ships ICGS Veera and Abheek were on a goodwill visit to Sri Lanka from 9th to 15th February. The ships arrived in the port of Trincomalee on 09th February and ceremonially received by SLN and SLCG. The visit was aimed at furthering the level of cooperation and interoperability between Coast Guards of both the nations and to share experience and knowledge in capacity building.
