SRI LANKA COAST GUARD (SLCG) TWO MILE OPEN SEA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP – 2020
Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) successfully conducted the 2nd edition of annual Two-Mile Open Sea Swimming Championship – 2020 at the sea front of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life Saving Training School, Balapitiya at 0830 hrs on 15th February 2020.
OVER 3KG CRYSTAL METHAMPHETAMINE (ICE) FOUND FLOATING AT SEA OFF TRINCOMALEE
Three sealed parcels of Crystal Methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘Ice’ found floating in seas off Trincomalee by a returning Sri Lankan multiday Fishing Vessel handed over to Sri Lanka Coast Guard on 14th February 2020. The parcels contained 3.172 kg of Ice with a street value over Rs. 30 million handed over to Police Station, Tangalle for further investigations.
MARITIME LAW ENFORCEMENT INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT COURSE PHASE II
A group of twenty four (24) Coast Guard personnel successfully completed ‘Maritime Law Enforcement Instructor Development Course Phase II’ and received certificates from Deputy Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG); Commodore YMGB Jayathilaka RSP, USP, BSc (Hons) at the closing ceremony held last week.The course was arranged by the US Embassy in Colombo under its Export Control and Related Boarder Security (EXBS) Program and conducted at the SLCG Advanced Training Centre, Mirissa from 06th January 2020 to 17th January 2020.
TRI LATERAL TABLE TOP EXERCISE (TTTX)
The ‘Tri-Lateral Table Top Exercise (TTTX)’ was conducted at SLCG Advanced Training Centre, Mirissa on 03rd and 04th January 2020, came to end at successful note following a brief closing ceremony. The Deputy Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Commodore YMGB Jayatilaka, RSP, USP, BSc(DS) Hons was the chief guest of the certificate awarding ceremony at the end of the exercise.
CAPTAIN RAJAPRIYA SERASINGHE TAKES OVER COMMAND OF SLCGS SURAKSHA
Captain (ND) YR Serasinghe assumed duties as the new Commanding Officer of the Off Shore Patrol Vessel, SLCGS Suraksha today, 28th December 2019.
JAPAN DELEGATION ON SLCG OIL SPILL RESPONSE CAPACITY BUILDING
Four members of delegations consisted with senior officials from Japan Coast Guard (JCG) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) from 09th to 13th December 2019 to conduct preparatory survey and discussions on ‘Detail Design on Oil Spill Incident Management Training’ with SLCG in next 03 years.
CG 410 HANDED OVER TO SRI LANKA COAST GUARD AFTER REFIT
Sri Lanka Coast Guard Fast Patrol Boat (FPB), CG 410 handed over to LCdr WMCP Wanigasekara, Officer in Command on 17th November 2019 by the Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral PM Wickramasinghe, RWP, RSP, USP, ndc, MSc (NS & WS), nswc after successful completion of her refit at the SLN Dockyard Trincomalee.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD CONDUCTS AWARENESS PROGRAMME FOR FISHERMEN IN CHILAW
Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel attached to SLCG ‘Waruna’ conducted a special awareness programme for fishermen in Chilaw area at Chilaw fisheries centre on 08th November 2019. During the programme fishermen were educated on Sri Lanka Coast Guard role in fishery activities and existing fishing regulations. Total of 56 personnel participated for this programme including fishery officials, chair persons of fishery societies and fishermen in area.
Sri Lanka Coast Guard Conducted Series of Life Saving Awareness Workshops for Civilians at Several Locations at Hambanthota District in View of ‘RATA WENUWEN EKATA SITIMU’ (රට වෙනුවෙන් එකට සි
The Mobile training team of Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life Saving Training School conducted several life savings and drowning prevention awareness workshops for civilians and school children in kirindigama primary school, Bundala primary school, Hambanthota fishery harbor and Bandagiriya lake on 10th , 11th, 12th and 13th October 2019 respectively. These workshops were initiated under the directives of Presidential Secretariat Office as a part of ‘Rata Wenuwen Ekata Sitimu’ Hambanthota district programme.
THE 15TH HEADS OF ASIAN COAST GUARD AGENCIES HIGH MEETING (HACGAM) SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDED IN COLOMBO
The 15th Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies High Level Meeting conducted from 7th to 10th October was concluded successfully at Galle Face Hotel, Colombo. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne WV, RWP & Bar, RSP, VSV, USP, NI(M), ndc, psn as the Chief Guest on the invitation of Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge, RWP, VSV, USP, nswc, MSc (DS) Mgt. Further, Additional Secretary (Defence) Mr. Anuradha Wijekoon and the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugethanne, RSP & Bar, VSV, USP, ndc, psc were also present as the guests of honour.
