COAST GUARD RECOVERED SEA TURTLE EGGS AND RELEASED TURTLE HATCHLINGS INTO THE SEA
Through the cumulative cooperation of Coast Guard personnel stationed at life-saving posts Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Balapitiya, Wellawaththa, Moragalla and Mount Lavinia retrieved 2024 numbers of sea turtles’ eggs from the territory close to their natural habitats during the period from 03 to 09 April 2023. The retrieved eggs are being conserved near the life-saving posts as well as where the eggs have been found. Meanwhile, SLCG has released 4167 numbers of sea turtle hatchlings into the sea from Wellawaththa, Mount Lavinia, Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Balapitiya, and Moragalla beaches during the same period.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD AND NAVY ARRESTED ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SEA CUCUMBERS
A one-day lifesaving training camp for students of Gateway College Rajagiriya was conducted on 01st April 2023 at the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life Saving Training School (LSTS), Balapitiya. The session was organized with the aim of raising awareness within the children's living environment, to emphasize the importance and the social aspect of knowing lifesaving skills among school students.
COAST GUARD ARRESTED THREE PERSONS WITH NARCOTICS
Fast Patrol Boat CG 402 attached to Coast Guard Northern Region apprehended three local fishermen with a fast-moving Fiber Glass Dinghy (FGD) while transferring 06 numbers of sacks containing 76 parcels of Kerala cannabis at the West of Delft island sea area on 04th April 2023.

The retrieved eggs are being conserved near the life-saving posts as well as where the eggs have been found. Meanwhile, SLCG has released 4755 numbers of sea turtle hatchlings into the sea from Wellawaththa, Mount Lavinia, Panadura, Mirissa, Hikkaduwa and Dehiwala beaches during the same period.
AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON ‘FISHERY LAW’
Regional Director Northern Region conducted an awareness program on 1st and 2nd< April to educate SLN personnel deployed for coastal observation duties at ND Chalei, ND Chundikulam and NDEP Vettilakerny on matters essential for prevention of illegal fishing and other illegal activities. Further, fishing community also were educated on fishery law, illegal fishing activities, other illegal activities in area, SLN/SLCG effort curbing/ preventing illegal activities and the importance of the fishing community contribution to prevent illegal activities.

COAST GUARD RESCUED FOUR LOCALS AND A FOREIGNER FROM DROWNING
The Lifesavers attached to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesaving Posts Hikkaduwa and Mirissa public beaches saved four locals and a foreigner during a successful rescue attempt on 01st April 2023. The group included two males aged 29 and 30, two females aged 27 and 29, and one female from Russia aged 31.
BEACH CLEANING PROGRAMME
SLCG is always committed for safe, secure and serene marine environment. Marine environment pollution has become a significant issue at present. CG Personnel in Coast Guard Northern Region conducted a beach cleaning programme on 31st March 2023 at Kankesanthurai Beach area. CG Personnel from RDNR Office, FPB Fleet and SLCG Jayesagara took part in the event.
COAST GUARD RESCUED FOREIGNERS FROM DROWNING
On March 31th 2023, five foreigners were rescued by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesavers stationed at the Hikkaduwa, Mirissa and Benthota public beaches Lifesaving Posts in a successful rescue operation.
THE SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED ILLEGALLY HARVESTED FISH CATCH
Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) personnel deployed at Beruwala Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties arrested two persons possessing illegally harvested dried shark fins and shark flesh on 30th March 2023 during arrival inspections.
