COMPLETION OF THE BASIC SEAMANSHIP COURSE CONDUCTED BY THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE ON DRUGS AND CRIMES (UNODC) AT ADVANCED TRAINING CENTRE (ATC) KIRINDA
Four Coast Guard personnel have successfully completed basic seamanship training conducted by UNODC at the ATC Kirinda. The course curriculum included Fundamental seamanship, Stability of the craft, Safety aspects, Boat manoeuvring and RHIB handling techniques. Mr Stuart Melville, UNODC’s Chief Instructor of the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) has facilitated the training as a resource person.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD RESCUED PERSONNEL FROM DROWNING
The Lifesavers attached to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesaving Post Bentota beach saved (07) seven young males, ages between 19 to 21 years during successful two rescue attempts on 15th February 2023 while they were drowning and dragged away by the currents.
The Lifesavers attached to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesaving Post Mirissa beach saved two locals during a successful rescue attempt on 13th February 2023.
COAST GUARD RECOVERED SEA TURTLE EGGS AND RELEASED TURTLE HATCHLINGS INTO THE SEA
Through the cumulative cooperation of Coast Guard personnel stationed at life-saving posts Mirissa, Wellawatta, Panadura, Hikkaduwa and Mount Lavinia retrieved 4786 numbers of sea turtles’ eggs from the territory close to their natural habitats during the period from 7th to 12th February 2023.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD ARRESTED A PERSON WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED DRIED SHARK FISH AND SHARK FINS
Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Dikovita Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties arrested a person in possession of illegally harvested Shark fins and shark fish on 12th February 2023 based on the information provided by Dikovita Coast Guard intelligent staff.
The Lifesavers attached to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesaving Post Mount Lavinia beach saved a local during a successful rescue attempt on 11th February 2023.
Crime Investigation Branch Mathara police apprehended munitions and drugs buried at the place in the Yatiyana area based on the information of Sri Lanka Coast Guard intelligence personnel attached to the Coast Guard Base Rohana on 09th February 2023.
COMMANDER, AUSTRALIAN JOINT AGENCY TASK FORCE AND THE DELEGATION PAID A COURTESY CALL ON THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SLCG
The delegation was headed by the Commander of the Australian Joint Agency Task Force, Rear Admiral Justin Jones from the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and the Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) Rear Admiral Pujitha Vithana warmly welcomed the delegation to SLCG Rear Headquarters, Wellawatta on 07th February 2023. At the outset, the Director General Coast Guard (DGCG) has expressed his admiration for allocating a time slot to meet him at the Coast Guard Rear Headquarters.

The Lifesavers attached to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesaving Post Hikkaduwa public beach saved a foreign couple during a successful rescue operation on 05th February 2023.
COAST GUARD RECOVERED SEA TURTLE EGGS AND RELEASED TURTLE HATCHLINGS INTO THE SEA
The collective effort of Coast Guard personnel attached to Life-Saving Posts Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Moragolla, and Balapitiya recovered 2052 numbers of Sea turtle eggs from places close to their natural habitat during the period from 01st to 06th February 2023. Recovered eggs being conserved at the locations near respective lifesaving posts. Meanwhile, SLCG released 72 and 172 sea turtle hatchlings into the sea from Mirissa and Balapitiya during the same period.
