The Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project (CGTCP) was launched in September 2012 with the purpose of preserving the turtles, eggs and raising the awareness of sea turtle conservation in Sri Lanka as a part of the duties and functions of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to assist in the conservation of marine species.

The Lifesavers attached to Coast Guard Lifesaving Post Mirissa, saved an Indian lady in a successful rescue attempt on 20th December 2021.The lady of 25 years of age was rescued whilst drowning and dragging away by currents at Mirissa Beach.
