SLCG INITIATED CONTRIBUTION TO THE NATIONAL ECONOMY
Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) took a step to train lifesavers with the aim of contributing to the country’s economy under the direction of Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard. The concept of ‘Sports Economy Promotion’ brought out by the Minister of Sport and Department of Sports Development, Sports Medical Unit National Youth Crops jointly collaborated with SLCG to initiate this training.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD RESCUED FIVE FISHERMEN IN DISTRESS
Sri Lanka Coast Guard rendered assistance to rescued five fishermen from a distressed Sri Lankan Fishing Vessel ‘Sampath 1’ (Reg. No. IMUL-A-0631 KLT) off Bundala on 01st February 2022.
COAST GUARD RESCUED A RUSSIAN NATIONAL AT RISK OF DROWNING
The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Benthota beach rescued a Russian national, during a successful rescue attempt on 30th January 2022. A 32 years old Russian male was rescued by the Coast Guard rescuers at Benthota, whilst drowning and dragging away by currents near Benthota beach.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED A FISHING VESSEL WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED PROHIBITED SHARK MEAT
Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Negombo Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties apprehended a Multiday Fishing Vessel along with five fishermen in possession of illegally harvested prohibited Shark Meat on 28th January 2022.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Chillow and Thuduwawa arrested two persons in possession with illegally harvested ‘turtle meat’ (approx. 30 Kg) in Uluhitiyawa area on 23rd January 2022.

The Change of Command ceremony of CG 61 (Ex-SLNS Jayasagara) took place on 20th January 2022 where the traditional Handing Over/Taking Over was conducted at Galle Harbour.
