AUSTRALIAN DELEGATION PAID A COURTESY CALL ON THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SRI LANKA COAST GUARD
A delegation of Australian high commission paid curtesy call to the Director General (DG) Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) at Colombo on AM 19th October 21. First Secretary Inspector Brett Zehnder of Australian Border Force (ABF) headed the Australian delegation with ABF Coordinator Ms. Shashika Perera. Director General SLCG along with Director Training and Commanding Officer SLCG Waruna attended the meeting.
COAST GUARD RESCUED TWO LOCAL DROWNING MALES AT MT LAVINIA BEACH
The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Post, Mt Lavinia rescued two 18 years old males residents of Maharagama, during successful rescue attempts on 16th October 2021. They were rescued whilst drowning and dragging away by currents near Mt Lavinia Beach.
COAST GUARD RESCUED A FOREIGNER AND TWO LOCAL MALES IN THREE SUCCESSFUL RESCUE ATTEMPTS
The Life Savers attached to Coast Guard Life Saving Training School (LSTS), Balapitiya and Coast Guard Life Saving Posts, Mt Lavinia and Panadura saved three males (one foreigner and two local) during successful rescue attempts on 10th and 14th October 2021.
AFRICANS GRADUATED AT COAST GUARD MIRISSA
Certificate awarding ceremony of the Advanced evidence handling and ship documentation course within VBSS operation was held with the participation of senior officials from Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) and Australian Federal Police in AM 8th Oct 21 at advanced Training Centre Mirissa.

The French delegation led by the Deputy Head of the Mission of the French Embassy, Mr. Aurélien Maillet, paid a courtesy call on to the Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake, RSP & Bar, USP, psc on 04th October 2021 at Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Headquarters, Wellawatte. The delegation is comprised with Captain Yves Le Corre, Defence Attaché (with residence in New Delhi) and few Officials from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED A FISHING VESSEL WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARK FINS
Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Beruwala Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties apprehended a Multiday Fishing Vessel along with six fishermen in possession of illegally harvested Shark Fins on 29th September 2021.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED A FISHING VESSEL WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARK FINS
Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) personnel deployed at Beruwala fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties, apprehended 06 fishermen with a multiday fishing trawler in possession of illegally harvested Shark Fins approximately 134.85kgs (233 fins) on 25th September 2021.
SLCG PASSED ANOTHER MILESTONE IN REGIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING
United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) sponsored Vessel Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) and VBSS instructor training programs were successfully completed on 24th September 2021. The training programs were conducted at Advanced Training Centre of SLCG and Weligambay villas Hotel, Mirissa by utilizing the resources belongs to UNODC/SLCG.
A NEW DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL APPOINTED FOR COAST GUARD
Commodore Janaka Nissanka, RWP, RSP, USP, ndc, nswc, MSc (NS&WS) has been appointed as the Deputy Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard with effect from 21st September 2021. Accordingly, former Deputy Director General Commodore Asanga Ranasuriya, RSP & Bar, USP, psc, MSc officially handed over the duties of the position to the new Deputy Director General at the Coast Guard Headquarters.
WORKING TOWARDS IMPROVING WATER SAFETY KNOWLEDGE AMONGST ARMED FORCES
In view of improving water safety knowledge and drowning accident response skills among the members of armed forces, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, conducted a Basic level Life Saving Training course for Army and Air Force personnel at Life Saving Training School, Balapitaya from 13th to 17th September.
