Two Indian Coast Guard Ships, ICGS ‘Samar’ and ICGS ‘Aryaman’ arrived at Port of Colombo on 01st December 2018 on a goodwill visit. The ships were ceremonially welcomed by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard in accordance with traditions on their arrival. Two ships will stay 03 days at CBO and will leave for Galle on 04th December for 03 days visit.

Cordial discussions were held on mutual interests and mementoes were exchanged symbolizing the goodwill of the two friendly forces.

SLCGS SURAKSHA RETURNED AFTER TRILATERAL EXERCISE " DOSTI - XIV "

SLCGS Suraksha returned to the country after participating in DOSTI XIV – 2018 Tri lateral exercise which was held in Male, the Maldives from 25th to 28th November 2018. Sri Lanka, India,andthe Maldives participatedin the exercise and many training exercises were conducted including, SAR operations, Boarding operations, Casualty transferring at sea, and External fire fighting support. The main exercise was conducted on 27th November off Male Island and SLCGS Suraksha, two ships from Indian Coast Guard with one air craft and a helo, two ships from Maldivian Coast Guard participated in the exercise. Hon. Defence Minister of Maldives Mrs. Maria Ahamed Didi, Chief of Defence Force of Maldives, Major General Ahamed Shiyam, Director General of ICG, Director General Rajendra Singh, and Director General of SLCG Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge were onboard to witness the event.

SLCGS SURAKSHA LEFT COLOMBO FOR EXERCISE “ DOSTI – XIV ”

Sri Lanka Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), SLCGS ‘Suraksha’ sailed today (23rd November 2018) for Maldives to participate in the Trilateral Coast Guard Joint Exercise ‘DOSTI – XIV’ which is planned to be held in the seas off Male from 26th to 30th November 2018. SLCGS ‘Suraksha’ is representing the Sri Lanka Coast Guard for the first time for an exercise in foreign waters since her joining SLCG fleet in September 2017.

SLCG APPREHENDED APPROX 300 NO’S ILLEGALLY HARVESTED LOBSTERS AND ILLEGAL FISHING NETS

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Coast Guard Station Kirinda conducted a combined search operation in Kirinda sea area with the assistance of Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources staff, Hambanthota to apprehend illegally caged lobsters out at sea on 31st October 2018. Lobster fishing has been banned during the months of February, September and October as per Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No. 2 of 1996 since it is the reproductive season.

SLCG ARRESTED SIX FISHERMEN WITH 3KG OF SHARK FINS AND 38KG OF DRY SHARK

Sri Lanka Coast guard personnel on duty at Fishing Marshaling Point Cod bay arrested 06 fishermen with 08 No’s of shark fins (03 Kg) and Dry Shark 38 Kg whilst checking process was carried out for returning multiday fishing trawlers at 1030 hrs on 01st October 2018 and handed over same to Assistance Director Fisheries of Trincomalee for further investigations and legal actions.

SEVEN FOREIGNERS RESCUED AT NILAWELI BEACH

Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) Lifesavers attached to lifesaving post at Nilaweli in Eastern region rescued seven foreigners with the help of Police Lifesavers while drowning at Nilaweli beach at 0940 hours on 23rd September 2018. The victims were one male and six females from USA and India. A five year old girl was also among them and others were between 26 to 54 years old. The quick response of lifesavers into the incident enabled saving of valuable lives of seven tourists, and rescued persons were handed over to their relatives. This rescue marked the 1114th life rescue of SLCG todate by accomplishing the SLCG Lifesaving motto “We Save Lives”.
