SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED A FISHING VESSEL WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARK FINS
Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) personnel deployed at Beruwala fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties, apprehended 06 fishermen with a multiday fishing trawler in possession of illegally harvested Shark Fins approximately 134.85kgs (233 fins) on 25th September 2021.
SLCG PASSED ANOTHER MILESTONE IN REGIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING
United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) sponsored Vessel Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) and VBSS instructor training programs were successfully completed on 24th September 2021. The training programs were conducted at Advanced Training Centre of SLCG and Weligambay villas Hotel, Mirissa by utilizing the resources belongs to UNODC/SLCG.
A NEW DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL APPOINTED FOR COAST GUARD
Commodore Janaka Nissanka, RWP, RSP, USP, ndc, nswc, MSc (NS&WS) has been appointed as the Deputy Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard with effect from 21st September 2021. Accordingly, former Deputy Director General Commodore Asanga Ranasuriya, RSP & Bar, USP, psc, MSc officially handed over the duties of the position to the new Deputy Director General at the Coast Guard Headquarters.
WORKING TOWARDS IMPROVING WATER SAFETY KNOWLEDGE AMONGST ARMED FORCES
In view of improving water safety knowledge and drowning accident response skills among the members of armed forces, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, conducted a Basic level Life Saving Training course for Army and Air Force personnel at Life Saving Training School, Balapitaya from 13th to 17th September.

Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Dikovita Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties, apprehended a Multiday Fishing Vessel with 7 fishermen in possession of illegally harvested 20 Kgs of dried Shark flesh on 14th September 2021.
SLCG HOSTS INTERNATIONAL TRAINING
Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) in coordination with Global Maritime Crime Programme of United Nation Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) facilitated to commence first training module for West African countries (Ghana and Nigeria) at Mirissa.
COAST GUARD SUCCESSFULLY ARRESTED 01 PERSON WITH LOCAL CANNABIS IN THANAMALWILA
Based on information gathered by Intelligence staff of Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) and Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), SLCG Intelligence staff of Kirinda successfully arrested 01 person with 20 packs of Local cannabis with the assistance of Thanamalwila Police around 1450hrs on 12th September 2021.
COAST GUARD APPREHENDED FREEZER LORRY WITH ILLEGALLY HARVESTED SHARK FINS
Based on information gathered by Intelligence staff of Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG),successfully apprehended a Freezer lorry along with five persons in possession of illegally harvested Shark fins on 04th September 2021. The operation was conducted with the assistance of SLCG personnel deployed at Beruwala Fishery Harbour for fishery monitoring and regulating duties.
FIRST JUDGEMENTAL TRAINING MODULE IN SRI LANKA
Global Maritime Crime Program (GMCP) of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime conducted four modules of two days training sessions in judgmental training for SLCG personnel at Advanced Training Center (ATC) Mirissa from 24th August 2021 to 03rd September 2021. This is the first training programme of this nature in Sri Lanka which was delivered by a qualified instructor from UNODC and 32 numbers of SLCG personnel completed their training during above period.
COAST GUARD ASSISTS TO SEIZE OVER 290 KGS OF HEROIN
A special operation conducted by the Navy in the high seas led to the seizure of over 290kg of heroin attempted to be smuggled into the island by Multi-day Fishing Vessel around 0230 hrs on 31 August 2021. SLCG assisted to the sea operation and search of the fishing vessel upon taken into the harbour.
