Sri Lanka Coast Guard Facilitate Lifesaving Training in Collaboration SLLS/Life Saving Victoria (LSV) – Australia
Sri Lanka Coast Guard facilitated four days lifesaving training programme at Advanced Training Center, Mirissa held with the participation over 120 young life savers representing Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Air Force, Police, Civil Security Department, schools and Clubs. The programme was conducted by Sri Lanka Life Saving (SLLS) and Life Saving Victoria (LSV) – Australia in collaboration with Sri Lanka Coast Guard. Sri Lanka Coast Guard coordinated the event with the assistance of SLN considering the importance of this special training to uplift the standards of Life Savers Island wide and to ensure upholding the national drowning prevention initiative pioneered by Presidential Secretariat.
Sri Lanka Coast Guard Successfully Conducted Beach Cleaning Programs in Island Wide
Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel successfully carried out Beach Cleanup Programs at adjacent beaches in Coast Guard Bases in all Western, Southern, Northern and Eastern Regional directorates on 29th September 2019 in parallel with International Coastal Cleaning up day as directed by Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge, Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard.

Following the extreme weather condition affected across the country, Sri Lanka Coast Guard deployed rescue and relief teams in flood affected areas of Southern Region to assist needy people for evacuation operations and distribution of basic needs,on the directives of Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge, Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard in coordination with Sri Lanka Navy, respective Divisional Secretariats, Police and Disaster Management Center.

The Mobile training team of Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life Saving Training School conducted several life savings and drowning prevention awareness workshops for civilians in Veththalakeni, Point Pedro, Kareinagar, Kayts and Delft area on 24th, 25th, 26th, 28th and 29th August 2019 respectively. These workshops were initiated under the directives of Presidential Secretariat Office as a part of ‘Rata Wenuwen Ekata Sitimu’ Jaffna district programme.

ANNUAL HIGH-LEVEL MEETING BETWEEN INDIAN COAST GUARD & SRI LANKA COAST GUARD HELD ON 20 AUG 19 NEW DELHI, INDIA
The 4th High Level Meeting (HLM) between Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) was held on 20th August 2019 at Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi. The SLCG delegation was led by Rear Admiral GDAS Wimalathunge, RWP, VSV, USP, nswc, MSc (DS) Mgt, MA (SSS), MSc, (NS &WS), Director General, Sri Lanka Coast Guard and the ICG delegation was led by Director General K Natarajan, PTM, TM, chief of Indian Coast Guard.
DEFENCE ADVISER OF BANGLADESH HIGH COMMISSION VISIT SRI LANKA COAST GUARD HEADQUARTERS
The Defence Adviser of High Commission for the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh in Colombo, Sri Lanka Commodore S M Hakim,(ND),BSP, ndc,ncc,psc,BN had a goodwill visit to Sri Lanka Coast Guard Headquarters, Mirissa on 16thAugust 2019 and paid a courtesy call on Deputy Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Commodore YMGB Jayathilaka RSP,USP,BSc( DS) Hons.
SLCG RESPONDED PROMPTLY TO OIL SPILL AT USWATAKEIYAWA TO KALUTARA
On receipt of the information from Disaster Management Centre about the suspected oil spill off Mount Lavinia beach on 8th August 2019, SLCG quickly deployed oil spill response teams with equipment. After investigation, it is found that solid oil balls / particles have scattered mainly on the beaches of Dikowita to Uswetakeiyawa, Dehiwala to Mount Lavinia and Panadura to Kalutara. Cleaning operations were led by Sri Lannka Coast Guard while assisted by Sri Lanka Navy could complete the task by 10th August 2019 with the utmost dedication of the personnel involved.
THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED PO’S MESS AT SLCG WARUNA AND OFFICER’S ACCOMMODATION AT SRI LANKA COAST GUARD STATION CHILAW WAS DECLARED OPEN
The newly constructed PO’s mess SLCG ‘Waruna’ was declared open on 31st June 2019 by the Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge, RWP, VSV, USP, nswc, MSc (DS) Mgt on the invitation of Commanding officer SLCG ‘Waruna’ Commander HBK Manjula. The building was constructed to uplift the living standard of the senior sailors of SLCG ‘Waruna’ as per the instruction given by DGCG.
