SLCG SEIZED OVER 5000 KG OF SMUGGLED DRIED TURMERIC IN MANNAR

A Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) attached to the Western Region of Sri Lanka Coast Guard arrested 02 Indian boats with a consignment over 5000kg of dried turmeric being smuggled into Sri Lanka in two occasions in consecutive days.

SRI LANKA COAST GUARD APPREHENDED ILLEGALLY CAUGHT DOLPHIN FLESH AND SHARK FINS

Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel deployed at Codbay fishery harbour in Trincomalee for fishing monitoring duties, arrested six fishermen with illegally caught 06 kg of dried Dolphin flesh and 12 no’s of Shark fins on 21st October 2020 during a search operation carried out on board a Multiday fishing trawler on arrival harbour. Apprehended items had been hidden in a fertilizer sack and in a secret place before they were found by the Coast Guard personnel.

COMMODORE ANURA EKANAYAKE ASSUMES DUTIES AS THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SRI LANKA COAST GUARD

Commodore Anura Ekanayake has been appointed as the 6th Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard with effect from 01st October 2020. Accordingly, former Director General Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge officially handed over the duties of the position to the new Director General at the Coast Guard Headquarters on 01st October 2020.

SLCG APPREHENDED A STOCK OF ILLEGALY HARVESTED SEA CUCUMBER

CG personnel attached to Fishing Monitoring Post of Kudawella Fishery Harbour seized approx. 4560 kg of illegally harvested sea cucumber while searching fishing vessel ‘SenaliDuwa’ at Kudawella Fishery Harbour on 24th September 2020. Preliminary investigation revealed that the illegal stock has been harvested near Chagos Island.
