TEN LIVES WERE RESCUED BY SLCG LIFE SAVERS WITHIN A WEEK
Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) life servers deployed at Mirissa, Unawatuna, and Bentota have rescued 10 foreigners between 15th to 21st March Indian( 02 female,01 male) ,British (01 male), Russian(01 each male and female), Czech Republic (1 each male and female) Belorussian (1 each male and female), while drowning, and dragging away with the current. The quick response of SLCG Life Savers enabled saving of valuable human lives. Rescued persons were handed over to their relatives and health conditions of the victims were stable at the time of handing over.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD(SLCG) TWO MILE OPEN SEA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP – 2019
SLCG being a key organization of providing lifesaving training and performing lifesaving duties, organized a Two-Mile Open Sea Swimming Championship – 2019 for the first time in front of the Sri Lanka Life Saving Training School, Balapitiya beach area at 0800 hrs on 16th March 2019.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD CELEBRATES 9TH ANNIVERSARY
Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) celebrated its 9th Anniversary on Monday (04th March). The Coast Guard Act No. 41 of 2009 was enacted by the Parliament on 09th July 2009 to incorporate the Department of Coast Guard. Its operational activities were ceremonially inaugurated on 4th March 2010.
SRI LANKA COAST GUARD LIFE SAVING TRAINING SCHOOL CONDUCTS BASIC LIFE SAVING COURSE FOR UVA WELLASSA UNIVERSITY STUDENTS FOR THE CONSECUTIVE FORTH TIME
Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life Saving Training School (LSTS) conducted a five day Basic and Resuscitation level lifesaving training courses to a group of Uwa – Wellassa University students from 11th to 15th February 2019 at Balapitiya. It was the fourth batch of students came from the same University for the lifesaving training at LSTS which included 09 male and 08 female students.
OIL SPILL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TRAINING IN COASTAL SEA AREAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED TODAY
The Oil Spill Incident Management Training in Coastal Sea Areas for SLCG Personnel was conducted from 05th to 15th February 2019 with the aimed to enhance the oil spill response management capabilities of SLCG personnel in Coastal Waters by the specialists on Oil Spill Training of Japan Coast Guard at Advance Training Centre, Mirissa.
SLCG ARRESTED A PERSON WITH TIPPER WHILE ILLEGALLY MINING SEA SAND NEAR KIRINDA BEACH
Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG)personnel deployed at Coast Guard Station Kirinda arrested a person while loading illegally mined sea sand to a tipper near Kirinda beach (locally known as Boraluwala) at 0130hours early morning on 6th February 2019. Arrested person (21-year-old male) and the tipper handed over to Kirinda police station for further investigation and legal action.
25 FISHERMEN ARRESTED WHILE ENGAGING ILLEGAL FISHING OFF BERUWALA FISHERY HARBOUR
Sri Lanka Coast Guard Inshore Patrol Craft (CG-206)deployed off Beruwala area to deter illegal fishing activities, arrested 08 fishermen along with 04 Dinghies with 08 No’s of endangered fish (THAMBUWA) and17 fishermen along with fishing Trawler, 01 Canoe and 02 Dhows with 02 no’s of illegal fishing nets (Purse seine), 02 no’s of underwater lights with 03 no’s of batteries off Beruwala fishery harbor while engaging illegal fishing on 30th January and 02nd February respectively.
THREE JET SKIS RESCUE BOATS JOINED SLCG TO ENHANCE LIFESAVING CAPABILITIES
The Handing over ceremony of 03 No’s of Jet ski rescue boats donated by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) under the direction of Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs, Hon. John Amaratunge to enhance the lifesaving capabilities of Sri Lanka Coast Guard was held at SLCG Headquarters, Mirissa beach premises at 1500 hrs on 28th January2019.
THREE STABICRAFT VESSELS JOINED SLCG FLEET
The Handing over / Taking over ceremony of 03 No’s Stabicraft vessels donated by the government of Australia to boost the Maritime capability of Sri Lanka Coast Guard was held at SLNS Rangalla , Port of Colombo at 1600 hrs on 25th January2019. These vessels were donated to SLCG as result of a productive discussion held between the President of Sri Lanka Hon Mithripala Sirisena and former Prime Minister of Australia Hon Malcolm Turnbull during his visit to Sri Lanka on 2nd November 2017.
JAPAN DELEGATION ON SLCG OIL SPILL RESPONSE CAPACITY BUILDING
A Seven member delegation consisted with senior officials from Japan Coast Guard (JCG) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) from 04th to 06th December 2018 to conduct preparatory survey and discussions on ‘Detail Design on Oil Spill Incident Management Training’ with SLCG in next 03 years.
