COAST GUARD ARRESTED A PERSON WITH 15KG DOLPHIN MEAT

Based on information received Coast Guard personnel attached to CGS Beruwala arrested a person with 15kg of dolphin meat on 07 August 2018. Arrested person with Dolphin meat was handed over to officials of department of wild life, Hikkaduwa for further investigation and legal action.

05 FISHERMEN ARRESTED WITH ILLEGAL FISHING HARVEST

Coast Guard personnel on duty at FMP Cod Bay arrested 05 persons with 05 No’s of Thresher shark fins (01 KG) whilst checking of returning multiday fishing trawler and arrested persons with items handed over to Assistance Director Fisheries of Trincomalee for further investigations and legal action.

SLCG RESCUED NINE PERSONS DURING KATHARAGAMA FESTIVAL SEASON

Sri Lanka Coast Guard Lifesavers were deployed in ten locations along the ‘Manik Ganga’ during Katharagama Festival Season held in Kataragama from 14th to 28th July 2018 and rescued 9 local pilgrims including 3 children. All were saved while drowning in Manik Ganga at Katararagama and Sellakataragama area. This brilliant effort shows the courage, dedication, bravery and professionalism of Life Savers of Sri Lanka Coast Guard.

SLCG ARRESTED SEVEN FISHERMEN WITH WHITE TIP SHARK FINS AND DRY FISH

Fishing Monitoring team of CGS Dikovita arrested seven fishermen with 1.8kg of Ocean White Tip Shark fins and 19.6kg of shark dry fish on 1st July 2018 at Dikovita fishery harbour. Fishing trawler ‘Heshan 6’ returned to Dikovita fishing harbour on 1stJuly 2018 and during the inspection by SLCG found above shark dry fish and fins hide in the engine room compartment.

SL COAST GUARD SAVES ANOTHER YOUNG LADY AT HIKKADUWA BEACH

Sri Lanka Coast Guard Life savers attached to Life Saving Point at Hikkaduwa in the Southern coast of Sri Lanka, rescued a foreign lady who was drowning at Hikkaduwa sea area on 15th April. The 19 years old British lady was drowning and being dragged away by the prevailing current and vigilant lifesavers promptly reacted and rescued the lady.

MARITIME VESSEL SEARCH TRAINING COURSE AT ATC

Maritime Vessel Search Training course was conducted by the Australian Boarder Force (ABF) for the third time at Advanced Training Center (ATC) of Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) Mirissa from 14th to 17th May 2018. Twenty participants from SLCG, Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) and Special Task Force (STF) were participated in this course. Australian High Commission facilitated the course.

REPATRIATION OF SRI LANKAN FISHERMEN

Five Sri Lankan fishermen were handed over to Sri Lanka Coast Guard by Indian Coast Guard on 15th May 2018.Indian Coast Guard ship ICG Imeya and Sri Lanka Coast Guard Fast Patrol Boat CG 402 engaged in repatriation operation and all fishermen were handed over to Fishery Inspector of Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources at Kankasanthurei.Fishermen were taken in to custody by Indian Coast Guard on 12th March 2018 with boat (IMUL-A-0450 TLE) while engage in fishing in Indian waters approximately 53 NM from Point Calimere.
